The Daily Herald in Provo, UT has an immediate opening for a photo editor.
The ideal candidate must have strong photo and organizational skills, a keen eye for news, sports and feature photographs, the ability to work well with reporters and editors and be able to write clean, clear cutlines.
The right candidate would be encouraged to generate story ideas that utilize great photography for the newspaper and website, and be comfortable with a variety of lighting situations and challenges, knowledgeable about current digital technology and applications for smart phone photography.
The work schedule will be M-F 9-5. Knowledge of Photoshop is required. The duties include taking photos, managing freelance photographers and overseeing the delivery of photos to production. Candidate will be required to do one in-depth multi-shoot package monthly (including photos and writing) as well as writing two articles each week. Daily duties include being the on-staff photographer from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. daily then switching to editing responsibilities after 1 p.m. (which is when the other photographer starts).
The Daily Herald has a Sunday circulation of over 20,000, with a strong emphasis on digital platforms which attract 600,000-700,000 unique visitors monthly, as well as multiple special publications including a local, annual Photos of the Year magazine and bi-annual Taste dining magazine and more.
